I am looking to get recommendations on a GPU that this system could safely run. MY old AMD Rx550 seems to have died. I was having issues for it for most of this year, but it seems to have finally stopped working. I am no longer under warranty from HP so figured I'd just replace it and maybe get something a little bit more powerful. I am looking for something under $500 if possible, that can run the few games I play on PC (FFXIV, PSO2: NGS, and Fallout 4) and handle some drawing in Clip Studio Paint.
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. I'd also prefer to not have to upgrade anything like the PSU, since I'm not really comfortable with doing that myself and also don't want to have to buy more components than just a new GPU.

Thank you!

Problem is going to be your existing power supply and, due to miners hogging all the video cards,  a budget.

An easy replacement for RX 550 is the RX 560.

Looking at techpowerup you can see that 250watt is recommended.   if you scroll the card list to  show the RX 560 you will see that 300 watt is required and the 560 is %40 better

Scrolling further to 1650 super, it is  %l100 better and is still at 300 watts

Question:  Does your power supply have a 6 pin PCIe connector?  If not then back to RX560 or some other card.

Your Ryzen 7 uses only 65 watts so there should be power available for the 100 watts the 1650 uses.

You mention it "seems" like your 550 died.  Does it work at all?  Intermittant?  Artifacts on screen?

hi

if you want a good graphic card
we will have to find a way to change the power supply

you can also look in the listing here

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-gaming-desktop-pc-tg01-0000a/37874510/product-info

see if the KB here can help you with the power supply if needed

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model...

When choosing a model, check the manufacturer's recommendations for the power of the power supply, pci connector required
And the dimensions, if too big, you may not be able to install it

Up to you ,
but if the model performs poorly, you will not be able to comfortably play some games

Sorry for the late reply, I work long hours.
I will definitely look into those suggestions, thank you. I can see about upgrading the PSU, I don't really know what I'm doing there so so kinda afraid of shorting out my system or something. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a 6 pin connector, but I can double check. It's the base HP power supply, I didn't have the option to change it as far as I recall when I ordered the PC.

As far as the GPU itself, I've had issues with it all this year. Long story short it was having driver issues which caused freezing and then crashing. I eventually fixed it by using AMD's removal service for graphic software (basically their DDU) and removed everything then just installed the driver and no AMD software (adrenaline I believe its called). That fixed it for a few weeks until I couldn't start my PC one day and had just BiOS beeps (made a topic about that on here). The BiOS problem fixed itself somehow and I managed to get the card working fine again after the PC had did this code 22 thing to it.  This was all fine until sometime last month when the PC would start up but I'd get no signal from the card. All my other fans spin, and I hear the normal startup sounds, but the GPU just sits there dead. I've tried reseating it. I've tried taking it out completely and using the integrated HDMI port, but that doesn't work for some reason either.
To be honest I've kinda given up hope for this card and just want to see if a replacement will let me use my PC again.

I just went and read your original post back in august.  There were 253 people before me that read it and did not offer help.  Sorry about that.  COVID cause a lot of companies to reduce their work force and I assume that happened here.

I looked up the Erica2 motherboard (several are on eBay) and they show on-board graphics.  Have you removed the RX-550 and used the built in video?  If so, did you see any problems similar to the RX-550 where it freezes and you have to reboot?

If the on-board graphics work OK then you might want to wait for the prices of video board to drop before getting a replacement.  Please check the motherboard video and post the results back here.

Why not upgrade to an AMD RX 580 4GB? You would get a huge 300+% graphics performance boost compared to an RX 550.  -There are still a couple left on Amazon from $275 - $336 if you dig a little bit. I recently purchased one of these "refurbished RX 580 OEM" low-power models for $309 that according to Amazon's pictures looked like an HP OEM RX 580, but what was shipped to me was instead a Dell OEM RX 580 model -no big deal as it was also a 6-pin powered version.

6 pin RX580 are not too common.  What is really disgusting is that Walmart had them for about $160 before the miners messed up the pricing.   One of my kids worked at Walmart.  We could have bought them out, waited two years, sold them as "new in box" probably for $500.  Plus they are blowers where the hot air is pushed out.

On the other hand, two years ago I bought a fake 1050 TI and was lucky I was able to return it.

Yes, that's the AMD RX 580-OEM Dell version I got for twice the M$RP and used...

BeemerBiker, things are not right.  Things haven't been right for a couple of years, as a matter of fact. As long as Ecommerce businesses -including Amazon- allow scalpers [EDIT: and thieves] to fleece the rest of us by allowing individuals to [EDIT: steal or] buy up these GPUs at MSRP and then reselling them at obscenely inflated prices, the problem will persist for the foreseeable future.

Do not put everything on the backs of the "minors", either
The problem is much more complex than that, there are also problems with automobiles, and it is not the minors.
There are issues with the availability of semiconductors ...

Graphics cards were also available and yet

Be careful what you buy

So I tried the onboard card before, but figured I'd try again just to make sure. Taking the current GPU out and using the onboard HDMI slot (has a cap on it normally) doesn't seem to work either. I'm guessing something in the system has it set to not be used, but I'm not really sure to be honest. Hoping it is just set to prefer the slotted GPU and not some error with my motherboard. The good sign is when I plug a monitor into that HDMI slot the monitor will detect a signal and turn on for a second and then power back off from nothing transmitting. So it seems tome it is detecting it, just there's no signal coming out because it's set to "off". Maybe in the BiOS, though I don't know how to change that when my current card isn't working.

For the PSU I'm not sure if it has a connector but the model number is PCG007 if that helps narrow anything down.

I will look into the RX580 though. Thanks for the suggestion! (Don't know how to or if I can quote posts on here, but thank you everyone for all the suggestions)
