Pavilion Desktop 590
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This has happen 3 or 4 times to me today for the first time.  It just immediately stops.  When I push the power button I get a blue screen with the message "A Themal Shutdown Has Occurred".

I checked and both fans are working.  Nothing is blocking the fans, no dust, etc.  The desktop is located in an open area.  I've only had the desktop for 3 or 4 months.

I've installed and have run Speccy and I'm not seeing temps over 40C.

I read some other HP community posts where people installed upgraded BIOS to fix the problem.

@mfleck_us , welcome to the forum.

I am not certain what is causing your problem, but here is a BIOS update to see if it helps:

You should read the Installation instructions carefully to assure that you don't have problems.  Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the link and advice.  I haven't done the update yet, but I did a complete shutdown followed by a reboot and the problem has not recurred yet.

I continue to monitor temps using SPECCY and it never goes over 40.  Most of the time it's between 30 and 35.

I don't think I was experiencing a true over-heating condition.  Which means it is likely a flaw or defect in HP's detection logic
