Hi @Vikib85
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Restart Your Laptop
- A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary software glitches that may be affecting the keyboard.
2. Check for Physical Issues
- Make sure there’s no debris, dust, or dirt under the keys.
- If you spilled anything on the keyboard, it could cause it to malfunction. Try cleaning it carefully.
3. Check the Keyboard Connection (for detachable keyboards)
- If your laptop has a detachable keyboard or if the keyboard was recently removed, make sure it's properly reconnected.
4. Reboot into Safe Mode
- Restart the laptop and press F8 (or Shift + F8) during boot to enter Safe Mode.
- Check if the keyboard works in Safe Mode. If it does, a software conflict may be causing the issue.
5. Update or Rollback Keyboard Drivers
- Step 1: Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Step 2: Expand the Keyboards section.
- Step 3: Right-click on the keyboard device (likely HID Keyboard Device or Standard PS/2 Keyboard) and choose Update Driver.
- Step 4: If the keyboard was working before a recent update, try Rolling Back the driver by selecting Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver.
6. Uninstall and Reinstall the Keyboard Driver
- Step 1: In Device Manager, right-click on the keyboard device under Keyboards and select Uninstall device.
- Step 2: Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the keyboard driver upon reboot.
7. Check Keyboard Settings
- Step 1: Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
- Step 2: Make sure options like Filter Keys and Sticky Keys are turned off, as they can interfere with normal keyboard behavior.
8. Perform a Hard Reset
- Step 1: Shut down your laptop.
- Step 2: Unplug the power cord and remove the battery (if removable).
- Step 3: Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Step 4: Reinstall the battery and plug the laptop back in, then power it on.
9. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check if there are any available updates.
- Sometimes, an update can fix driver issues related to the keyboard.
10. Test with an External Keyboard
- If possible, connect an external USB keyboard to see if it works. If the external keyboard works, the issue may be with the internal laptop keyboard hardware.
11. Restore to an Earlier Point
- If the issue started recently, you can try performing a System Restore to a point when the keyboard was working:
- Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point before the keyboard stopped working.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
