My RAM is installed 2 slots, but on windows only 1 slot is installed. I checked through the cpu-z software readable 2 slots installed. I have made an effort:

- remove one of the slots

- swap between slot 1 and slot 2

- update bios

- update windows

- make sure on the slots there is no dust or debris

Hi @Rei72, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since CPU-Z detects both RAM slots but Windows only recognizes one, the issue may be hardware-related or due to firmware/software limitations.
Here are some additional troubleshooting steps:

Check Task Manager and System Information

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) → Go to the Performance tab → Click Memory.
  • Check if it shows both RAM modules or only one.
  • Open System Information (Win + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter). See if both RAM slots are listed.

Verify with BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS (F10 on startup).
  • Look for Memory Information to confirm if both RAM modules are detected.
  • If BIOS detects only one module, the issue might be with the motherboard, RAM slot, or compatibility.

Test Individual RAM Sticks

  • Insert only one RAM module at a time in each slot and check if both work separately.
  • If one slot never works, the slot may be faulty.

Try Different RAM Modules

  • If possible, test with another compatible RAM stick to see if the issue is with the RAM module itself.

Check for Windows Memory Limits

  • Open System Configuration (Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter).
  • Go to the Boot tab → Click Advanced options → Uncheck Maximum memory.
  • Restart and check if Windows recognizes both slots.

Update Chipset and Memory Drivers

  • Go to HP Support and download the latest chipset drivers and memory controller drivers for your model.
  • Also, check Windows Update for any pending hardware-related updates.

Reset BIOS Settings

  • Enter BIOS (F10 on startup), select Load Default Settings, save, and exit.

Check HP Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run a Memory Test to check if both slots and modules are detected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
