HP Laptop 15-bs0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I recently started having problems with my HP Laptop 15-bs0xx (1.5 years old) with the battery. I did a BIOS test that said my battery was passing, but my laptop relies on an adapter even though it's stuck at 21%, and the battery shuts off immediately and I have to start my laptop all over again. Weird thing is, the light on the side of my laptop indicates that my battery is fully charged, even when I disconnect and connect the adapter. I don't know what's the problem and I've looked all over the internet before posting here.

Hi @NextLevelOof

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the battery issue.

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Hard Reset -

1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.
3. Remove the Battery.

Note - This step is not applicable for built-in battery.
4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.
5. Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer.
6. Try to turn on the computer.

Step 2 BIOS Defaults -

1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3. Press F10 once for BIOS.
4. Press F9 for BIOS defaults.
5. Press F10 to save and exit.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 3 Windows Updates -

1. In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2. Check for updates.

3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 4 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2. Check for updates.

3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, try these steps -

1. In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.
2. Expand “Batteries”.
3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
4. Click on “Uninstall”.
5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
6. Shutdown the computer.
7. Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.
8. When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
9. Go to Device Manager.
10. Expand Batteries.
11. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
12. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software". Repeat the same steps for Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
