Hello, I'm need of help. My chromebook had shut down on medium battery level, and won't charge. The light on the side next to the port won't turn on either. I unscrewed the bottom to check inside and only was able to peak through, but I couldn't tell what was the battery. This happened after I plugged my phone charger into the side port to charge with the computer's engery. Its worked fine before. But randomly my computer shut down, a second ago being at half charge on the battery icon. Is there a way I can send it to a manufacturer or have a replacement sent to me? Or can I fix this at home?

It depends.
Is the Chromebook in warranty?
If not, I suggest replacing the battery with a new one.
Updated!
If you plugged the mobile phone into a non sleep and charge USB type-C port it may have caused the issue.
As far as whether you can fix it at home goes, that depends on your own ability.

If the charge/power LED does not light up, the issue could be the charging circuit, the power adapter or the battery.
I own one of the first generation HP Chromebooks and when mine did what you report yours as having done I troubleshot it.
I tested the power adapter with a resistive load, I inspected the charging circuit and disconnected the battery.
My Chromebook was still relatively new so a non-bloated battery put that out as a cause.
The battery is a flat pack.
I found a video on YouTube by a 12 y/o kid who described how to reset the charging circuit.
His suggestion and method worked and my old Chromebook is still working.
