Welcome to our HP community forum!
Depending which HP Z4 G4 Workstation model you got, you either have one or two M.2 Gen3 x4 NVMe SSD slots available:
A "memory upgrade" means different things to most people. I'll list four M.2 NVMe SSD purchase examples which in my (undoubtedly biased) universe means just that -not the most expensive (or highest capacity either), but solid upgrades:
Western Digital WD_BLACK 1TB SN850 (with heatsink) : https://www.amazon.com/WD_Black-SN850-Internal-Gaming-Heatsink/dp/B08PHSVW7K/ref=sr_1_2?crid=G1D5O1G....
Samsung 980 PRO 1TB (with heatsink) : https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Heatsink-Internal-Compatible-MZ-V8P1T0CW/dp/B09J159SWL/ref=sr_1_20?cr....
Samsung 990 Pro 1TB: https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-7450MB-6900MB-1550K-600TBW/dp/B0B9C3ZVHR/ref=sr_1_35?crid=G1D5O1GXOL7....
Western Digital WD_BLACK 1TB SN770: https://www.amazon.com/WD_BLACK-SN770-Internal-Gaming-Solid/dp/B09QV692XY/ref=sr_1_5?crid=G1D5O1GXOL....
Mind you, Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSDs will run at Gen3 I/O speeds on your Workstation.
Kind Regards,
