Elitedesk 800 G2 Mini
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to add extra storage to the machine whilst using a SSD for the OS.

I can't seem to find out whether the m.2 PCIe slot on the machine will work with a NVMe SSD i.e

WD Black NVMe SSD

Any advice would be appreciated.

I know there have been a few posts regarding this in teh past on the forum but none seem to have answered the question.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not an HP employee.

The WD PCIe 3.0x4 drive will work on your MB.

See page 28 in the Maintenance and Service Guide (link).

I just checked the HP quickspecs for your model and it does list which drives are compatable

http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04818335.pdf

you can use SATA SSD from the onboard motherboard SATA ports

you can use nvmw in M,2 format (only one m.2 ssd is supported) the other m.2 slot is only for wireless

i recomend you take the time to fully read the quick specs and then perhaps use google to download the service manual for your model

Thank you, I googled a lot and couldn’t see a definite answer. Even HP Support couldn’t really give me an answer. I will order the drive and update the thread once I’ve had the chance to try it out.

Hi Raf786,

You're very welcome.

The Maintenance and Service Guide clearly lists M.2 socket support for a PCIe 2280 gumstick drive.

You would have to look to HP if this drive does not work.

Let us know how the upgrade goes.

Regards
