I have a Sunflower motherboard from our HP Pavilion 690-0067c Desktop PC, link down below for specs and infos. Its just so confusing to me that this will accept a NVMe m.2 SSD?
Can I put a NVMe SSD in my PC via m.2 connector (M key)?

Motherboard is
and the M.2 SSD slot supports both M.2 SATA 3 and NVMe SSD. Other machine of the same series of your machine has NVMe option

Greetings DoubleR-HNL,
Some motherboards only support M.2 PCIe 3x4 NVME drives.
PCIe is way faster than the SATA disk transfer rates.
I would think if HP is going to pick which way to go it would be the PCIe route.
A SATA M.2 drive may not be recognized by the system even if it can be installed in the M.2 socket. The socket may be keyed to accept either type storage device.

As mentioned on my reply above: HP does have machines which have option with NVMe drive for this series. The above link shows one model which is HP Pavilion 590-p0559ng
HP Pavilion 590 series can have many models/products called HP Pavilion 590-pnnnnaa (where nnnn = 0000 to 9999 and aa = aa to zz. Normally aa code is for country/region/market). They share same motherboard. You can find models exactly the same but the last 2 characters are not the same.
Regards.

Hi
I have seen some HP motherboards that have an M.2 socket which will not recognize an M.2 SATA device.
PCIe 3x4 NVME devices work as expected.
HP, wisely, opts to use the faster PCIe 3x4 HSIO SDIP ( High Speed Input/Output, Serial Digital Interface Protocol) when configuring M.2 sockets on the motherboard.
The Sunflower motherboard may support SATA 6 GB/sec and PCIe 3x4.
Better choice to go PCIe 3x4 for the best data transfer rates.
