I have done some extended test with Compaq Presario BIOS...
Maybe this info could help someone else...
I have created an archive with all the needed files:
Compaq Presario SR2010NX-SR2020NX-SR2030NX-SR2037X BIOS.rar
I have sent the archive to TheOldMan.
How to flash BIOS for Compaq Presario SR2010NX / SR2020NX / SR2030NX / SR2037X
How to flash the BIOS via a floppy disk
- How to create a bootable floppy disk:
* Note: All data on the floppy disk will be deleted
- Insert a floppy disk into the drive
- Format the floppy disk (Right click on the floppy disk drive and select Format)
- Options:
- Select, Quick format
- Select, Create an MS-DOS startup disk
- Click "Start", to format your floppy disk.
- Extract all files from the archive "Compaq Presario SR2010NX-SR2020NX-SR2030NX-SR2037X BIOS.rar"
- Open the folder "Compaq Presario SR2010NX-SR2020NX-SR2030NX-SR2037X BIOS".
- Open the folder "Floppy disk files"
- Copy all files to the root folder of your floppy disk.
- Boot your Compaq Presario system from the floppy drive.
- Insert your floppy disk in your system.
* By default, the BIOS is configured to boot from the floppy drive.
- If the system does not boot from the floppy drive then the BIOS must be configured:
* If you have no image output from the Compaq video card then you will have to boot your system from an USB stick.
- Turn ON the system
- Press F1 to enter the BIOS
- Go to Exit > Load Setup Defaults (or Press F5)
- Go to Boot > Boot Device Priority > 1st Boot Device
- Select: Floppy Group
- Press F10 to save the BIOS changes and exit
- The system will restart and boot from the floppy drive.
- The BIOS flashing process will be automatic:
* DO NOT RESET OR TURN OFF THE SYSTEM during the flashing process.
- The boot procedure will take more than 30 secs.
- During the flashing process, you will hear some "beeps" from the system (that's normal).
- The flashing process will take around 20 secs.
- When the new BIOS has been flashed, you will hear fast sequences of "beeps".
- Press "F1", to reboot the system.
How to flash the BIOS via an USB stick
- How to create a bootable USB stick:
* Note: All data on the USB stick will be deleted
- Download & install Rufus: https://rufus.akeo.ie/
- Plug an USB stick into your system.
- Execute Rufus:
- Options:
- Device: (Be sure to select to right USB stick)
- File system: FAT / FAT32
- Select, Quick format
- Select, Create a bootable disk using: FreeDOS
- Click "Start", to format your USB stick.
- Extract all files from the archive "Compaq Presario SR2010NX-SR2020NX-SR2030NX-SR2037X BIOS.rar"
- Open the folder "Compaq Presario SR2010NX-SR2020NX-SR2030NX-SR2037X BIOS".
- Open the folder "USB stick files"
- Copy all files to the root folder of your USB stick.
- Boot your Compaq Presario system from the USB stick.
- Plug your USB stick in your system. (disconnect any other USB sticks or devices but the keyboard)
* If you have no image output from the Compaq video card then:
- Turn ON the system
- (blindly) Press ESC (during 15 sec.) to enter the BIOS Boot Menu
- (blindly) Press 2 times the down arrow on your keyboard, this will select your USB stick then press Enter.
- The system will boot from the USB stick
- The BIOS must be configured to boot from a USB stick:
- Turn ON the system
- Press F1 to enter the BIOS
- Go to Exit > Load Setup Defaults (or Press F5)
- Go to Boot > Boot Device Priority > HDD Group Boot Priority
- Press "-" or "+" keys until the first item on the list is: USB-HDD0
- Press F10 to save the BIOS changes and exit
- The system will restart and boot from the USB stick
- The BIOS flashing process will be automatic:
* DO NOT RESET OR TURN OFF THE SYSTEM during the flashing process.
- The boot procedure will take more than 30 secs.
- During the flashing process, you will hear some "beeps" from the system (that's normal).
- The flashing process will take around 20 secs.
- When the new BIOS has been flashed, you will hear fast sequences of "beeps".
- Press "F1", to reboot the system.
