Welcome to our HP Community forum!
For an official Letter of Volatility for your HP USB External DVDRW Drive (P/N: 864979-001), you typically need to contact HP directly. The Letter of Volatility is a formal document provided by manufacturers that details which data (if any) is stored in non-volatile memory and can be retained or lost after power-off or disconnection.
Since external drives like the HP USB External DVDRW usually don’t have onboard storage that holds persistent data (aside from basic configuration settings), the letter would confirm that they don't store volatile data when powered off.
Steps to Request the Letter of Volatility:
Contact HP Support:
- Visit HP Support and enter your product's serial number.
- You can also try reaching out via HP’s online chat, email support, or phone for specific product inquiries.
Request the Letter of Volatility:
- Inform them that you need the Letter of Volatility for the HP USB External DVDRW Drive (P/N: 864979-001).
- Provide details like the product part number (P/N) and serial number (SN) to help them identify the exact model.
Alternative Sources:
- Some security-focused third-party websites or organizations may have standard templates for requesting the Letter of Volatility, but it’s always best to get it directly from HP to ensure accuracy.

I've visited the HP Support page many times and attempted to find a contact method for requesting this letter of volatility. Each time leads to no support center being found. I need an actual email or support method to initiate my request.

Trust me, as a fellow HP User, I understand your frustration in not being able to find a direct contact method. Since HP doesn't always provide a straightforward email address for specific requests like the Letter of Volatility, here are a few alternative ways you may try to initiate your request:
1. HP Support Chat:
- Go to the HP Support page.
- Select the "Contact HP Support" option.
- Opt for the Chat with Support option. This allows you to (hopefully) interact with a live agent who can escalate your request to the correct department.
2. Contact HP through Social Media:
HP's official Twitter or Facebook support channels can sometimes provide quick responses. Reach out to them with your request, and they can help direct you to the right team for the Letter of Volatility.
- Twitter: @HPSupport
- Facebook: HP Support
3. HP Enterprise Support (if applicable):
If your request relates to enterprise or business equipment, HP Enterprise Support might be another avenue for these types of formal documents. You can reach them via the HP Enterprise Support website or by contacting a local HP Enterprise representative.
4. Submit a General Request:
You could also try submitting a General Inquiry request via their support contact form to reach a team that may forward your request to the right department: Contact Official HP® Support - United States | HP® Support or: HP® Customer Service & Support | HP® Store.
I sincerely hope one of these options helps! If you continue to face difficulty, let me know and I can assist further in tracking down other methods to reach out.
