Need a DVD recorder/Player that will fit a HP Slim Desktop 3050U. I assumed new PC came with DVD Players. Would like to purchase the internal DVD that fits the Slim Desktops

current systems rarely are available with internal optical drives nowadays

dvd players/burners came in 5.25 (full sized) for older desktop systems

and 9.5mm and 12mm for laptops/newer minitowers

for the 9.5.12mm optical drives the interface is almost always a standard SATA interface called minisata this means the drive uses a standard sata data cable and a slimmed down power connector

looking at the picture of this system it appears to use a 9.5mm slimline optical, as such you can use just about any 9.5mm optical drive that has a flat faceplate (not a custom faceplate)

here's a DVD/CD reader/burner with a dell branding that will work fine in your system you will have to remove the dell plastic clip from the drive and install the 4 HP mounting screws on it these screws should be inside the case screwed into the metal by the optical bay

mini sata power only cable:  (this adapter still needs the standard SATA data cable)

you to use a normal sata power cable  with the minisata adapter to power the optical drive
