My nephew has a hp desktop computer. He said the power cable broke into. I don't know much about the system. Does it use power brick or plug directly into the wall and where would I purchase one. Any help would be appreciated.

The HP VH240a is a monitor, not a desktop computer.
Below is the link to the parts list for the HP VH240a 23.8-inch Monitor:
It has both a power supply and a power cable that goes from the wall socket to the power supply.
911754-001 | ADAPTER 40W 19V 2.1A DELTA |
121565-001 | Power cord (Black) - 3-wire conductor, 1.83m (6ft) long (United States) |
You can buy a new power supply from HP for $54.33, but they don't have the power cord.
