Hey there! I recently received an HP Pavilion 590-p0086 from a family member. It's equipped with an Intel Core i7-8700 and 32GB of RAM, and now I'm looking to upgrade the GPU. I'm uncertain if the PC case and power supply will accommodate a better GPU. I've tested the PC for recording and streaming, but it's laggy and sounds very loud like a jet engine sometimes 😂. I used to have a mini PC, but I was given this one. Can anyone recommend a GPU or help me find the power supply wattage so I can find a GPU? If it's not feasible to upgrade, should I consider a new PC? Your input would be greatly appreciated

@Jbreezzy,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

According to the specs, your HP Pavilion 590-p0086 (3LB17AA) as fitted with a Lincs motherboard (SSID: 843B), was issued with a 310-watt power supply (p/n: L64961-800 or L03980-800 -please verify and report back.)

In any regards, there is a compatible 400-watt power supply with p/n: L04618-800 or a 500-watt power supply with p/n: L05757-800, both are available online, such as via eBay, as shown via Trusted Sellers.

When it comes to recommending you a graphics card, that depends on what your budget is, and what it is you want to do with your Pavilion.  With your existing 310-watt power supply, you could use a GTX 1650, such as this purchase example via Amazon, with a 400-watt power supply you could power a smaller-sized (two fan) RTX 4060 model, and with a 500-watt power supply you could power a smaller-sized (two fan) RTX 4060 Ti model.

I used to use my old PC for recording and streaming, and I appreciate the fast response. I'm looking to upgrade the PSU and the GPU on my current PC to improve its recording and streaming capabilities. I'm not sure how to find the p/d number for the PSU. Could you please guide me on how to do that? Also, what PSU and GPU do you recommend for recording and streaming? Thank you!

@Jbreezzy,

I have given your question quite a bit of thought and consideration.

The challenge is that the best power supply available for your desktop is the aforementioned 500-watt power supply.

With this limitation in mind, the best option at this point in time I could give you -and if anyone else out there cares to add their recommendations, please be my guest, with the 500-watt power supply upgrade, would be a smaller-sized (two fan) RTX 4060 Ti 16GB GDDR6 model, powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, such as this Amazon purchase option: Amazon.com: Asus Dual GeForce RTX™ 4060 Ti EVO OC Edition 16GB GDDR6 (PCIe 4.0, 16GB GDDR6, DLSS 3, ....

With this RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, you are somewhere between "Entry Level" and "Intermediate level" for recording/streaming/rendering as per this website: Best Graphics Card for Streaming: A Complete Guide (apexgamingpcs.com), but it should do the job well in my opinion.

Yes, this would mean a considerable initial investment on your part, but you should be able to avoid the frustration and annoyance that would inevitably result from mediocre and underwhelming recording/streaming/rendering performances.

Hope this was helpful.

Hi there! Apologies for the late response. I've been swamped with work lately. I searched last night on Amazon but couldn't find a 500-watt PSU that I feel confident about. However, I did come across one that offers 550 watts. Would that be suitable, or should I stick to 500 watts?

@Jbreezzy,

If you must, you can purchase the 500-watt power supply with p/n: L05757-800 via Amazon: amazon.com/Compatible-L05757-800-DPS-500AB-32A-DPS500AB32-795-0003UR/dp/B0CQLD1LHS/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1....

What is the part number for the 550-watt power supply you came across?

Kind Regards,
