HP-14-dk1025wm

Hey guys, so I have a HP-14-dk1025wm laptop and I got a question. Can I have both SSD and HDD together in my laptop? I'm still kinda new to upgrading my laptop so I'm not sure what I can and can't do. Any kind if help would be appreciated.

Hi:

Chapter 1, page 3 of the service manual indicates that dual drive configurations are supported, so you can install a NVMe SSD in the second slot and use the 2.5" drive for storage.

I don't know if you intend to clone the drive to the SSD or clean install Windows on it, but be aware that your notebook will most likely not boot from the NVMe SSD because the Windows boot manager will automatically boot from the 2.5" drive first since it has an operating system on it.

Best to temporarily disconnect the 2.5" drive and run the notebook off the NVMe SSD so the Windows boot manager automatically switches to the SSD.

Then you can reconnect the drive.

If the Windows boot manager switches back to the 2.5" drive, you will have to format the drive and remove Windows from it.

Thanks for the reply. What would be the difference if I run Windows on the SSD compared to leaving it on the HDD? If you can explain this to me it would be of much help.

You're very welcome.

That's what you need to do...install Windows on the SSD.

What I'm telling you is that with Windows currently on the 2.5" drive, the PC will not boot from the SSD because the Windows boot manager will not let it.

You have to temporarily disconnect the 2.5" drive so the windows boot manager switches to the SSD to boot from.

Then you can connect it back up, but if the Windows boot manager switches back to the 2.5" drive, then you are going to have to format the 2.5" drive and remove Windows from it, so the boot manager switches to the SSD and always boots from it.

Oh okay I understand. So I can use the SSD as the boot up and the HDD will be used for storage, correct?

That is correct.
