Product Name: HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15"
Model: 15-eb1043dx
I was gifted this laptop (purchased from Best Buy) in Jan 2022 and it came with the following storage:
512GB PCIe® NVMe™ SSD storage + 32GB Intel Optane
I would like to replace the storage with 2TB, but need to know what is compatible, and how the Intel Optane factors into any decisions - I think it comes as separate part (is that correct?). Would it need to be upgraded also? How do I ensure whatever SSD I purchase is compatible with it? Best Buy (Geek Squad) will be performing the changes and upgrading to Windows 11, but I want to ensure I'm buying compatible and appropriate parts.
Thank you.

Hi:
The 512 GB NVMe drive has the 32 GB Intel Optane memory onboard.
I recommend that you replace the drive with one that does not have Intel Optane memory.
I doubt they even make a 2 TB NVMe SSD with Intel Optane.
There are some steps you need to take when dealing with Intel Optane drives before you remove them.
1. Disable the Intel Optane memory in the Intel RST software program.
2. If there is a BIOS setting in your notebook's BIOS, you need to disable that setting.
See the last two sections at the link below for how to do this.
HP has the steps out of order though. You disable in the Intel RST software first, then in the BIOS.

I'm pretty sure that your notebook's M.2 slot is not PCIe Gen 4.0 but a Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD would work fine from a Gen 3 NVMe slot.
I recommend either one of these drives:
A less expensive PCIe Gen 3.0 SSD would be this one:

Before you remove the drive, make the HP bootable USB recovery drive so you can install Windows on the new drive:
You can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with the PC.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.
