HP Omen 870-224
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello if you need more info please ask. So i need to upgrade my memory as i only have 1 stick of 8gb and i need more. Here is what i have installed in the machine. Micron #MTA8ATF1G64AZ-2G3B1 1648,  8GB 1RX8 PC4-2400T-UA1-11 which is 288 pin.

I ran the Crucial scanner and here are the results. https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/scanview/E4E9634531D926C3

I see in the crucial results much faster ram than i have installed. So my thinking is why not buy the fastest ram i can then let it default to the speed the motherboard can run. Does that make sense because i want to get the best bang for my money. I also like the heatspreader style over the stock style sticks.

Maybe down the road build another computer myself. Then re-use this ram i want to purchase in that new computer. However at the same time putting the stock stick back into place in the Omen.

Right now i am running a 7th Gen Kaby Lake Intel Core I5-7400 SR32W 3.0 GHz.

So my question is what is the fastest DDR4 i can buy and it still work at stock speeds?

Whats your thoughts? Thanks

@Billy15 , welcome to the forum.

The motherboard in the computer only supports 2133/2400 memory.  Therefore, I wouldn't try any memory that is faster.  Crucial would offer faster memory if it could work.  They only guaranty the memory that they recommend.  Personally, I can't see wasting money that won't benefit you at present.
