Have a OMEN HP 45L and need to add a DVD drive to load programs and data. I have looked for an external one, but everyone said how slow they are. I do not think you can add one internal so an external I guess is my only option. Can anyone recommend one? I see on Amazon they have many for the 20-to-30-dollar range. Most with an 10% dissatisfaction rating.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

I have this model which I have used for several years.  Works great.

Amazon.com: ASUS ASUS LITE Portable USB 2.0 Slim 8X DVD/ Burner +/- Rewriter External Drive, Compati...

As far as the speed of it, I never gave it much thought.

All optical drives only run at the SATA I transfer speed.

Maybe if you use it to burn DVD's at 8x that might be what they are referring to.

I've only used it to reinstall programs on CD's/DVD's and for that purpose, I didn't notice any major difference.

Thank you for the information. Seems like most are in same price range and work about the same.
