I'm having internet connectivity problems. My ISP tech told me my NIC is dying. What do I do now?

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05115048
It has both wired and wireless adapters. Normally NIC is for wired port which is built in the motherboard (in this case). It only has
- Expansion Slots:
- One PCI-E (GEN 3) x16 socket
- One M.2 socket 1, key A (occupied by wireless card now)
Therefore the best option for wired network now is to use a standard USB - NIC adapter. I'm using the following one (for one of my notebooks) and I've got 3 more USB 3.0 ports
