HP Z620 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have to reset the network via the network status page/control panel internet setting everytime I boot up the computer for the other computers on my wired lan network to see this Z620. Does this have anything to do with the AMT setting in bios? Getting really annoying to share files from this computer to the others. I have to reset(takes 5 minutes with win10) then I'm golden until I turn the Z620 off. Then if I restart same problem, Z620 isn't seen on my wired lan.   Any suggestions on why this is?

@1patriotofmany,

I am not too well versed in your networking challenges, but if you don't mind, I'd like to give it a try.

In my opinion, your issue likely has more to do with Windows networking settings rather than AMT (Active Management Technology) in BIOS. From what I was able to glean from online sources, here are some potential fixes for your HP Z620 Workstation's issue:

1. Ensure Network Discovery & File Sharing Are Enabled:

  • Open Control PanelNetwork and Sharing Center.

  • Click Change advanced sharing settings (left pane).

  • Under Private (current profile):

    • Turn on Network discovery and File and printer sharing.

  • Under All Networks:

    • Enable Public folder sharing.

    • Disable Password-protected sharing (optional).

  • Click Save changes and restart.

2. Verify Network Adapter Power Settings:

  • Open Device Manager (Right-click StartDevice Manager).

  • Expand Network adapters, right-click the Ethernet adapter, and choose Properties.

  • Go to the Power Management tab.

  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

  • Click OK and reboot.

3. Disable Fast Startup for Windows 10:

Fast Startup can cause networking issues, as it hibernates instead of fully shutting down.

  • Open Control PanelPower Options.

  • Click Choose what the power buttons do.

  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.

  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).

  • Save changes and restart.

4. Set Static IP Address:

  • Open Control PanelNetwork and Sharing Center.

  • Click Change adapter settings (left pane).

  • Right-click the Ethernet adapterProperties.

  • Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

  • Set a static IP address within the network range.

  • Example:

    • IP Address: 192.168.1.100

    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    • Gateway: 192.168.1.1

    • DNS Servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

  • Click OK, restart, and test.

5. Check SMB 1.0 Support:

  • Open Control PanelPrograms and FeaturesTurn Windows features on or off.

  • Scroll down to SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support.

  • Ensure SMB 1.0 Client is enabled.

  • Click OK, restart, and check if the issue persists.

6. Reset TCP/IP Stack:

If the issue is still present, try resetting the network stack:

  1. Open Command Prompt (Admin) and copy/paste/enter one at a time:

    netsh int ip reset
    netsh winsock reset
    ipconfig /flushdns
  2. Restart your computer.

7. Update Network Adapter Drivers:

If none of these steps resolve the issue, AMT settings in BIOS are unlikely to be the culprit, but they can be disabled as a last resort:

  • Enter BIOS (press F10 at boot).

  • Navigate to AdvancedAMT Configuration.

  • Disable Intel AMT and Save & Exit.

Let me know if you need further troubleshooting!

I could have sworn i had all the checks numerous times. Apparently I didn't, checked the public sharing now working. Thanks. It was driving me nuts for quite a while and I know in my head I had enabled everything needed to share. Guess not! Working now.
