Hello,
I want to upgrade my Pavilion P6361FR. The motherboard is Iona GL8E https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-pavilion-p6300-desktop-pc-series/4079858/model/4104744/docum...
The computer came with 2 modules of 2 GB RAM (PC3-10600, also called DDR3 1333). I bought a PC3-10600 module of 4 GB. The idea was to have them all 3 running to get a total of 8 GB. The BIOS sees the new module, but when I test it (by pressing F9 at boot), the test remains stuck at 0% (If I put the new module alone). And of course Windows gives me a blue screen of death. I also have a linux partition which also cannot start with the new module.
The module I bought is Transcend JM1333KLH-4G (https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-479)
The motherboard specification mentions the module should be non-ECC and unbuffered. I don't think my Transcend module is ECC or buffered (nothing specified of the sort on Transcend website). I even updated BIOS and cleared CMOS.
The only difference I can see is that the Transcend module is 1Rx8 instead of 2Rx8, which means that it has 8 chips of 512 MB all on one side, instead of having 16 chips as the original modules (which I am using now). Somehow the Transcend website only mentions ASROCK motherboards as compatible with their RAM module, no idea if it's because it's their partner and they advertise ASROCK or if it's really the only motherboards which can take their modules.
What is the reason why the Transcend module won't work on my Pavilion?
What should I buy instead to upgrade my computer?
Thank you!

I selected this module from the criteria given by HP : It's DDR3, PC3-10600, nothing on the HP website explains why this module doesn't work. I had no reason to believe that HP was providing misleaéding information, but here I am down 35€ because I trusted their info (I confirmed that the module I bought is non-ECC). So far I have no logical reason to believe that any other 4 GB module will work.
I want a 4 GB module so that I can later get another, similar 4 GB if necessary, to get up to 12 GB. I know that Windows 7 home doesn't work with 12 GB, I don't care as I use it once in a blue moon. If I get 2x 2GB I'll be stuck at 8GB, and 2x2 GB is about 50€ instead of 30€-35€, not cheaper.
Buying from a US vendor doesn't make any sense to me, and unfortunately they hide the name of the product they sell.

Edit: Never mind. I checked the sites of RAM manufacturers, only Kingston mentioned a discontinued RAM compatible with my motherboard (
KINGSTON KTH9600B/4G 4GB 1333MHz PC3-10600 CL9)
. It's impossible to find new ones but I found a set of 2 used ones. Lesson learned, I won't trust info given by HP in the future.

How did you select this 4 GB module.
Here is an example of the correct module.
Your could actually be better off with two 2GB modules. The price is lower, and the pair would conform to dual channel.
HP Envy 8 5010 Tablet
(2) HP DV7t i7 3160QM 2.3Ghz 8GB
Printer -- HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 Legal
Custom Asus Z97D, I7-4790k, 16GB RAM, WIN10 Pro 64bit, ZOTAC GTX1080 AMP Extreme 3 fan 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD, Asus PB287 4k monitor, Rosewill Blackhawk case and 750W OCZ PSU.
