Hello, I am having some baffling issues with a new GPU, compatibility wise everything is in order as far as I can tell.
Here are my current card specs: http://www.evga.com/Products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=E5DFB182-908A-4D33-9B65-BFE8BFE44909
Here is the card I am trying to upgrade to: https://www.asus.com/uk/Graphics-Cards/EX-GTX1050TI-4G/specifications/
Here is my desktop specs and motherboard: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03030800
(I have 14 gigs of RAM now)
When I boot up I get one beep followed by two more shorter beeps a minute later, it stays on the HP startup screen and pressing esc key does nothing. I uninstalled my current graphics drivers prior to putting it in.
I've tried reseating it 3 times. Nothing
I've been scouring forums for help, seems that updating the BIOS and switching to Legacy solves problems.
Trouble is, my BIOS is already up to date at '7.12 Rev. A' and as far as I can tell it's already in Legacy mode but I am extremely hesistant to tamper with it. The BIOS hasn't recieved a new version to download since Feb 6, 2012, that might explain a lot.
What I am guessing here, especially since my old card still works, is that my motherboard simply wont support this much of an upgrade, I would be grateful if someone could tell me why.
I would buy a new PC if I didnt loathe Windows 10 so much, as it stand I'd like to hang on to this one...

Hi,
You nee a HP version 8 BIOS or higher to get the NVIDIA GTX 1xxx series graphics cards to work normally in your PC. Unfortunately, HP only has a version 7 BIOS available for the "Chicago" motherboard.
Try moving up the existing NVIDIA GTX 6xx legacy line the 660, 670 or 680. The GTX 680 is finicky in some PCs and the older legacy graphics cards are power hungry. Be sure to match the replacement graphics card with the recommended minimum power supply as stated by the graphics card manufacturer.
-----------------------------
The newer UEFI enabled graphics card such as the NIVIDA GTX 1xxx series expect a "proper handshake" from UEFI enabled PC BIOS. If that doesn't occur then you boot process will stall at the HP splash screen or earlier for that matter.

Hi Dave,
I also own a HP Pavillion HPE H9-1033uk (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-pavilion-hpe-h9-1000-phoenix-desktop-pc-series/5151854/model...)
.
I was thinking of upgrading my video card, and similarly to Garrett, I tried to install a GTX 770 to no avail. The same beeping noise and no booting. So thanks to your previous post I understand now that it is the issue of my motherboard bios not supporting newer cards.
Now, unlike Garrett's system, my HP is running the stock 550ti that came with it. I'm no longer sure what GPUs will work with my motherboard.
So I would like to ask what GPUs are compatible with the 7.12 Rev A Bios on the Chicago Motherboard.

The NVIDIA GTX 770 is not going to work in your PC. It's the same issue as the OP's.
If you need additional information then please review this thread.

Hi Dave,
Taking from the thread you linked, I feel that I should be able to run a GTX 670 as I have a 600W.
Am I correct in this assumption?
Also I wanted to ask, is there any comprehensive list of HP OEM approved GPUs?
Similar to the list you posted in the other thread you linked to.
Thanks.

Review the CTO (configure to order) model, if one exists for your product series, to locate the HP OEM approved graphics cards.

Hi,
A slightly different HP model line with the same motherboard.
The NVIDIA GTX 670 should work but it's not guaranteed to do so. You need the correct power supply.
