HP ENVY h8-1414 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The new SSD shows up in the BIOS, so device and cables are ok. Problem most likely I hope is I have no IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers showing up in my Device Manager.

Can't get any info from HP where computer is retired. BIOS version I have now is: An2-808.romvV8.08

s/n of the computer is [personal info removed]

3.50ghz AMD-FX 6120

M/B Gigabyte 2AC8 1.2

Hopefully you'll won't need any other specifications, however if you do, please let me know. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

I don't know why the SSD is not being seen but my suggestion is to Google for MInitool Partition Wizard and download and install their free version.  Unlike Windows, that will see drives that have not even been initialized or formatted -- basically, anything the BIOS sees.

Hey WAWood,

I appreciate the suggestion, however the SSD didn't show up under the MINItool program either. I am really stumped on this one. I ordered a bookable win 10 flash drive to load win 10 onto the SSD then wipe the HDD. Thats the plan anyways.Any suggestions on that going sideways, LOL?

I'm presuming that Win10 came preloaded on your desktop, right? If that is true, then you are using an HP OEM version of Windows.  If you install from something else, you will have to buy a new license because although the license is embedded into the firmware, it only transfers over to an OEM version, not the other versions.

Also, a fresh install will effectively erase all the HP drivers, which is not a big deal in a desktop as those tend to use more generic hardware, for which the default MS-provided drivers work OK.
