@Antonino4,

No worries, the higher wattage power supply is not an issue at all.  If there was -say a hypothetical compatible 700 watt power supply for your desktop, it still wouldn't hurt your desktop: your PC will take what power it needs, and nothing more.

Now everything is clear to me. A thousand thanks. I will buy the new power supply you recommended to me soon. I have spent a lot of time solving this problem. You have been very kind. Thanks again.

@Antonino4,

You are very welcome!

Because we must work often with ambiguous, incomplete and sometimes contradictory HP-parts/specs information, I would recommend that you buy the 400-watt 942332-001 replacement power supply from a(n eBay) Seller who allows returns ("30 day returns | Buyer pays for return shipping") -just in the slim chance this power supply is not compatible.  It should, having spent time researching this, but as mentioned, we are pushing the proverbial boundaries a little bit beyond what HP intended.

Look, I have made it a hobby to upgrade legacy HP desktops -all of them very successfully in the end, I should add.  However, sometimes when I purchased certain parts I had to make an educated guess based on the best available information.

Most of the times my research paid off, but sometimes -even though the data strongly suggested things really ought to have been compatible, doggonit -they were not.  Therefore, on some occasions return to sender it was, at minimal cost to me thanks to allowable returns.

So, again, if your upgrade project were mine, I would not hesitate to go ahead with the aforementioned 400 watt power supply upgrade recommendation.

I always formulate an alternative "Plan B", so to speak. In this case, it would be a 310-watt power supply with HP p/n: L64961-800, which according to an often referenced HP power supply compatibility spreadsheet: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model..., shows the Milton motherboard as being compatible with the aforementioned power supply:

Hope this was helpful and at your service.

I don't know how to thank her for taking the time to deal with my problem. The information he gave me was gold to me. I will change power supply as soon as possible and then update the video card. Maybe I'll choose the 310w PSU, as the video card I have in mind doesn't need the extra power. A thousand thanks.

@Antonino4,

Btw, I was hesitant to mention the 310-watt power supply alternative, because how much people are charging for it:

HP has this power supply in stock, see: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=l64961-800, but they will charge you a whopping $248 (not including tax or S/H), you can get a unit via eBay to be shipped from Great Britain: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=HP+L64961-800&_sacat=0, which ironically, appears to be the least expensive purchase option for around $100, this site sells them for $125: https://parts-hq.com/shop/l64961-800-power-supply-psu-310w-sirius2-ent19-full-range-842949, and this site sells this power supply for $150: https://www.impactcomputers.com/l64961-800.html.
