I have not used the Smart Tank for a couple of weeks. In the interim I purchased a refurb PC. Now needing to print I am wondering if I own the printer or not. For one thing it seems they are not going to let me use it unless I'm logged in? What does that mean, they have access to my documents? I have Wi-Fi, I don't need to be logged into an unseen server way off somewhere? I've been on PC's since the last millennium, late 80's to be exact and I've purchased many HP products. But this is getting on my last nerve. So many windows, so many do this or do that or sign in and I've still not gotten to use the printer. Sign In to Scan? Why? I will next time try, I say try, to buy a printers that gives me autonomy or ownership without being internet logged in. Maybe a cable would have been better. Do they still use cables? I don't even know about this one. smh

Hi @jnepoore,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I'm here to assist with any HP product related inquiries.
If you're concerned about ownership of your HP Smart Tank printer when using a new or refurbished PC, rest assured that the ownership of the printer is independent of the PC you're using. Your printer remains your property regardless of changes in your computer.
For your new setup, you might need to reconnect your HP Smart Tank printer to your refurbished PC by following these steps:
Install Printer Drivers:
- Ensure that you have installed the latest drivers for your HP Smart Tank printer on your new PC. You can download drivers from the HP Support website.
Connect Your Printer:
- Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable if it's a wired connection, or connect to the same Wi-Fi network if it's wireless.
Add Your Printer:
- On your Windows PC, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click on Add a printer or scanner and follow the instructions to add your HP Smart Tank printer.
Test Print:
- Once added, try printing a test page to ensure everything is set up correctly.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you. I pretty much got through it. I have hooked this very printer up several times, wirelessly, to different pcs and never seemed to have the frustration of this time. But all seems to be well. ty again!
