Z820
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased a refurbished Z820 workstation. However, I can't get the onboard LSI SAS 2308 controller to run. Windows 10 has no drivers for it, and neither does HP. I have searched in vain trying to find drivers, but no luck. Since Microsoft is phasing out support for Windows 7, downgrading the OS isn't really an option. Can anyone help, or do I just bite the bullet and buy a controller card that has support?

Thanks;

Rob Pleak

Does the device show up as an LSI SAS2308 controller with a ! mark next to it?

Some folks think the missing device is one of the SAS controllers when it is actually the Intel storage controller that is missing the driver.

Can you post the hardware ID for the device that needs the driver?

To find the hardware ID, click on the controller needing the driver.

Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window.

Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description.

Drop down on that list, and select the 3rd item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Hi:

Did you try the W8.1 driver?

Try manually installing the driver if the auto install method doesn't work.

LSI 2308 SAS Driver - Windows 8.1 64

2.00.69.05 Rev.A(3 Oct 2014)

This package contains the LSI Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Driver for supported workstations running a supported operating system.

Thanks, but I tried all of the Windows drivers with no success...

You're very welcome.

And you tried manually installing the driver using the following method?

Go to the device manager, click on the SAS controller needing the driver, click on the driver tab, click on Update Driver, select the Browse my Computer for driver software, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file...folder is located in C:\SWSetup\sp69178.

Make sure the include subfolders box is checked.

Yes, that's exactly what I did...
