All In one PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I have just bought and set up a new HP All-in-One 24-df0076.

Set up straight forward and everything working OK.

However since I've been sat working on the computer I've noticed that it is making a very distracting noise. I've never had a laptop or desktop make noise like this. It slows when I'm not doing anything on it but revs back up as it wants to.

The fan runs at a constant 1600-1700rpm regardless of CPU usage, even when it is as low as 5%. The noise starts as soon as the PC is booted up and continues once Windows is booted and then on and off while idling.

I had tried all of the fixes on the HP Support site https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c03702528

1. Changing power settings does not stop or alter the fan speed or noise.

2. The PC is fresh out of the box, vents are clean.

3. I've been through and stopped all unnecessary apps and processes, no change.

4. Couldn't find any corrupt processes in Task Manager.

5. I've updated Graphics driver.

6. I've updated BIOS.

I've been into BIOS and there is no option to manually change fan speed or settings.

It seems that the CPU fan is just constantly running rather than adjusting speed in response to rising temperature.

I'm out of ideas and the noise is not going to work for me, please help! From previous threads it looks like my only option is to return the computer to the retailer however I need to know if it's an HP thing or is this a lemon?

Sincerely,

AMC

I know exactly how you feel.  I am guessing that some one did not want to honor warranty because the CPU overheated and burned so they picked the highest speed the could and then printed a warning not to use a 3rd party app to set the speed lower.

It may be the same engineer who designed a blue LED for the power on and it lights the whole room up to where I had to put a piece of tape over it so I could sleep.

I am done ranting.

Try the following

Download SpeedFan , be sure to read the Advanced Speed control documentation and see if it works.  It did not work for me on HP3400 and HP6000 but you might luck out.

What works for sure (for 4 or 3 pin fans connectors)

Current limiting resistor (Power Resistor) that normally come in 8 packs.  You can put two in series if needed.

What I have done that also works:  Use 5 volts or 7 volts instead of 12.  If you don't want to build your own adapter just google "molex to 5v 7v"

There are all kinds of kits available  on eBay for variable speed control.  Some come with a thermostat sensor others have a knob and you got to turn it.

Hello
sorry this is my point of view but ..
A new computer should work without needing to install anything to change the behavior of the fans.
It is precisely under warranty, it does not suit you and you have already done the right thing, it seems ..
If you use a workaround, change the speed of the fans, or whatever, that this ends up causing on the contrary, the degradation of the computer, you risk precisely, that it is not supported then.
If the fans make noise, this is not normal, if you lower the speed, so that it makes less noise, the computer may overheat!
If you can make an exchange, or refund with your dealer, do it, don't wait until it's too late

@AMC2020 --   It slows when I'm not doing anything on it but revs back up as it wants to.

A brand-new installation of Windows will "call home" a lot:

* Windows Update

* Anti-virus  update

* iTunes update

* Adobe Reader update

* iCloud syncronization

 * OneDrive syncronization

All this "background" activity will cause the CPU to work harder, and generate more heat, and cause the motherboard to spin the CPU-fan more quickly (and with more noise).

Use the Windows "Task Manager" to see how busy the CPU is, and if more than 80% of the RAM is being used.
