Hi @Mossman1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing issues with your HP Omen 34c curved monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display) menu when connected to your Mac Mini M2. Since the monitor is locked in Gaming mode and you can't adjust settings like color, contrast, or brightness, this could be related to compatibility or input connection types.
Here are a few things to try.
Ensure Connection via DisplayPort/HDMI:
- Make sure you're using the correct input method (HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort) for your monitor to function fully with macOS. Sometimes, certain features are only accessible via a specific input type.
- If using a USB-C to HDMI/DisplayPort adapter, ensure it supports full functionality for monitors like the HP Omen.
Switch Monitor Input Mode:
- Some HP monitors have limitations on adjusting brightness and contrast if the monitor is in certain preset modes like "Gaming." Check if the monitor is stuck in a preset mode and try switching it back to standard or custom modes.
- If the monitor doesn't allow changing modes directly via the OSD, resetting the monitor to factory settings might help.
Reset the Monitor:
- Try resetting the HP Omen monitor to factory settings. This might unlock any restricted OSD options.
- You can usually do this through the OSD by going to the "Settings" or "Factory Reset" option.
Update Monitor Firmware:
- Check if there's any firmware update for the HP Omen 34c monitor. A newer firmware version might fix compatibility or software issues, especially with macOS devices.
- You can check for updates on the HP support site or through the monitor’s OSD menu.
macOS Settings Adjustment:
- Sometimes, macOS restricts or handles certain display settings, especially if the monitor is using a preset mode. Try adjusting the display settings on your Mac Mini:
- Go to System Settings > Displays and check if you can modify brightness or enable/disable features like HDR (if supported).
Disable Gaming Mode:
- Gaming mode might be locked for certain input types. Check whether switching to a different input on the OSD allows you to change it.
- Some HP monitors automatically detect gaming content and apply a preset, so disabling gaming features might require navigating the OSD to a "Custom" or "Standard" mode.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could be an issue specific to the HP Omen monitor model and macOS compatibility.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi - Thank you for you prompt response. I tried checking the HDMI cable was of the latest type, it was. On the Mac OS it recognised the monitor. On the monitor it was selected to HDMI 1. I was still missing options on the right and left of the monitor OSD display. I did a factory reset and still the same. My son has a HP Omen laptop and he accessed via the display port on the monitor. It gave him all of the display options. I set up my display preferences on that and switched back to HDMI 1 and it remembered. The thing is, I bet if I turned off the monitor, it would not retain my preferences. Since it is now working, I will leave it in sleep mode when not using but look into purchasing a HDMI to Display port lead and see if the options are there. Thank you for your help.
