Hi @ctorres651,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the number keys on your HP laptop aren't working, it's likely due to the Num Lock key being turned off or some software issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Num Lock Key

  1. Locate the Num Lock Key: On most HP laptops, the Num Lock key is located near the top right of the keyboard.
  2. Enable Num Lock: Press the Num Lock key once. You should see a light indicating that Num Lock is on. If your laptop does not have an indicator light, try using the number keys to see if they are functioning now.

Check Keyboard Layout Settings

  1. Windows Settings: Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Keyboard. Ensure that your keyboard layout is set to the correct language and layout.
  2. Ease of Access Settings: Sometimes, Ease of Access settings might interfere with the functionality of the Num Lock key.
    • Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard.
    • Check if "Use the numeric keypad to move the mouse around the screen" is turned on. If it is, turn it off.

Update Keyboard Drivers

  1. Device Manager:
    • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the "Keyboards" section.
    • Right-click your keyboard device and select "Update driver".
    • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".

Check for Software Issues

  1. Restart Your Laptop: A simple restart can sometimes resolve software conflicts.
  2. Check for Updates:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Check for updates and install any available updates.

Test in Safe Mode

  1. Restart in Safe Mode:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
    • Under Advanced startup, click "Restart now".
    • Select "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Settings" > "Restart".
    • When your laptop restarts, press F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  2. Test the Number Keys: Check if the number keys work in Safe Mode. If they do, the issue might be due to third-party software or drivers.

Check for Physical Issues

  1. Clean the Keyboard: Dust and debris can sometimes block keys. Use compressed air to clean the keyboard.
  2. External Keyboard: Try connecting an external keyboard to see if the number keys work on it. This will help determine if the issue is with the keyboard itself.

BIOS Settings

  1. Enter BIOS: Restart your laptop and press F10 (or the appropriate key for your model) to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. Check Num Lock Settings: Look for an option related to Num Lock in the BIOS settings and ensure it is enabled.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially fix the issue with your HP laptop's number keys.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
