ENVY TE02-1000
Microsoft Windows 11
I ordered this PC, but am having second thoughts since it may not take ANY PCIe card if it lacks any expansion slots.
Does anyone know the facts?

The one PCIe slot appears to be blocked by the video card (I’d thought the x16 one below was free).
And the other PCIe slot may not even exist (the one described as PCIe Gen 3.0 x4).
Even the HP technicians online aren’t sure, and recommended I wait till it arrives to find out if my TV card PCIe x1 will work.
I can’t be the only one to have ordered this (with the core i7-13700 CPU upgrade and GDDR5 RAM). Here’s the spec.:

One PCI Express Gen 5.0 x16 (Gen5 ready)
Three M.2 expansion slots:
  • One M.2 socket 1, Key A
  • Two M.2 socket 3, Key M (one for SSD card PCIe Gen 3.0 x4)

@geilcourt,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The HP ENVY Desktop TE02-1000 PC, according to: https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-envy-desktop-te02-1000-pc-6m338av-1, has one (1) PCIe x16 slot, two (2) M.2 NVMe SSD slots, and one (1) M..2 WLAN slot only.

It doesn't say anything about additional PCIe slots (x16, x4, x1) whatsoever. Indeed, from my personal (user's) POV, an upscale gaming desktop's motherboard/platform equipped with just one PCIe slot is, well, let's say, challenging to work with.

Thanks, that’s helpful. The M.2 description also said the one M.2 connector was “PCIe Gen 4” (or something like that), so between this and the existing PCIe x16 slot, I surely thought I’d have no problem.

Of course, I hadn’t reckoned with the video card taking that slot! I understand that now, and I also read up about the PCIe description for the M.2 attachment (there’s an adapter to install an M.2 SSD card to a full height PCIe board (but not the other way around I assume).

Either way, I did start a chat session to HP technicians, and they too weren’t completely sure whether I’d end up being able to install my PCIe full height TV card. So they recommended I wait till the new PC arrives (it gets shipped out in 2 days), and then see if I have an issue. You know, after all this time I’m still not completely sure which motherboard is coming. The BlizzardU is as you described, and suited to the i7-12700 CPU. But I’d upgraded the order to the i7-13700, which appears to be the CPU related to the ArcticU motherboard (I’m still wondering if they do indeed switch boards accordingly).

I’m pretty sure now I’ll be returning this desktop. Such a shame, it seemed ideal. But it’s been like pulling teeth to discover exactly what the motherboard was going to look like.

@geilcourt,

Indeed, let's hope you are going to get one of the Arcticxx motherboards, such as the ArcticOC (SSID: 8A96 -hint! 😉), which has, in addition to one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, also one PCIe 3.0 x4 slot: HP Desktop PCs - ArcticOC motherboard specifications | HP® Customer Support.

Wow, yes.. that would be nice. I’m a little optimistic from having seen the 790 number in the build… it would be more appropriate for the i7-13700, thereby avoiding a BIOS upgrade ( the H looks weird though, in Z790H).

Good news! (Albeit as a result of exchanging the Envy for an Omen 40L GT21-1455se.)

So I should be getting the ArcticOC motherboard after all. The return process has been excellent with HP; the associate was prompt and very professional, and helped me to order the replacement PC with all customizations rapidly over the phone. In fact, I was so impressed at HP’s procedure, I added RAM all the way up to 64 GB. Good Customer Service begets users happy to spend even more on their orders. 😉

Here’s a photo of the TE02-1000 motherboard, focusing on the blank PCIe location and blank solder spots for 3 out of the 4 visible USB locations. The build of the TE02-1000 is impeccable, but I really did need the extra PCIe slot.

@geilcourt,

That is most excellent news -you can look forward getting a truly lean mean Gaming machine!
