OMEN 25L Desktop PC GT12-1000i (ID 1N3Z1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I wanted to upgrate my RAM but on my chipset (886B) updated to latest BIOS version F12A i don't have any XMP feature or advanced options on BIOS so when i plug every RAM (Tried Corsairs, Vengance, Kingston Fury Beast) thew clock speed is capped at 2400 MHZ.
What's my options regarding upgrading RAM? I've read that other similar chipset already had their version upgraded with BIOS allowing xmp activation

@biseri0n,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your OMEN 25L Desktop PC GT12-1000i (1N3Z1AV) is fitted as mentioned by you with the Oasis motherboard (SSID: 886B), and according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-25l-desktop-pc-gt12-1000i/2100404876/document/ish_4853671-..., supports DDR4 PC4-25600 running at 3200 MHz.  Incidentally, if you wanted to, this PC could handle up to 4 x 32GB of RAM -not that you'd need it, but just to let you know.

According to: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-OMEN-25L-Desktop-GT12-1xxx/235286, the majority of OMEN 25L GT12-1xxx rigs are fitted with HP branded Kingston RAM (Kingston HP37D4U1S8ME-8X 2x8GB & Kingston HP37D4U1S8ME-16X 2x16GB) which do run at 3200 MHz.

HP computers are known to be picky/finnicky when it comes to RAM and achieving max RAM speeds.

According to the aforementioned link, there was only one non-HP branded Kingston RAM that achieved 3200 MHz RAM speed:

Samsung M378A1G44BB0-CWE 8GB

And therefore analogously:

Samsung M378A1G44AB0-CWE 8GB
Samsung M378A2G43AB3-CWE 16GB

That is not to say that other RAM couldn't/shouldn't achieve 3200 MHz on your rig, for example:

Crucial CT8G4DFRA32A 8GB
Crucial CT16G4DFRA32A 16GB

Or equivalent Crucial 2 x 8GB or 2 x 16GB RAM kits.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@biseri0n,

Stay away from 'fancy' (RGB lit-up) gaming RAM, as these RAM almost always require advanced BIOS XMP access to change their lower-set SPD (serial presence detect) RAM speeds, which has shown to be problematic for many HP gaming platforms -as apparently you have experienced.

At this point isn't just easier change motherboard and get rid of all these complications?

Wouldn't it just solve the issue, given that the stock ram on Omen is plain  basic?

@biseri0n,

What motherboard would you like to change to?

[EDIT:] I would consider buying RAM that is known to run at 3200 MHz for your OMEN 25L GT12 or consider upgrading to a more advanced gaming platform already fitted with the amount of (fast) RAM you prefer and full BIOS XMP access.

Thanks for the answers,

Well, to be honest i just got the PC, and my only problems with it is the RAM amount (mostly play with VR simulators like DCS and Flight Simulator so it's kind of a issue having just 16gb) and also the CPU cooling (planning on upgrade the CPU with a liquid system).

For the MB upgrade was looking to a cheap solution for now, like the MSI B560M PRO (for abouit 130€) and i'm fine spending that given i got the pc with a fairly good sale, without investing much more having with that a capable and more flexible system.

@biseri0n,

Btw, I edited my previous response. The MSI B560M PRO (mATX?) is a fine motherboard, and if it fits inside your case & lines up with the i/o ports, etc., that would indeed be a nice upgrade.
