HDMI video seems to have quit - how to debug or fix this?
I have a relatively new OMEN 45L GT22-1190 that's been working fine - not heavily loaded often, mostly just routine video editing. This afternoon, it abruptly stopped sending signal thru HDMI to its monitor. It had been running fine earlier and then switched to black.
The monitor and the cable are both fine (work properly on other systems).
The OMEN won't lite up a known working other monitor/cable combo.
It's also interesting to me that the power button on the OMEN desktop doesn't seem to power it off. The desktop lights up & the fan runs. To power off I have to pull the power plug. That seems strange to me but I haven't done a lot of power flipping with this desktop.
I'm at a loss how to debug this and see if I can get it working. It's probably still under warranty but I don't want to exercise that demon unnecessarily. I've looked around a little but I haven't seen anything useful that might apply to this system.

Greetings @cecinit
Welcome back to the Forum.
The power button/shutdown anomaly could be an item of interest which may be directly related to video failure.
Have you tried onboard graphics if the CPU (your PC has a 7900X so this would be a yes) and rear MB I/O support this? Or try a different graphics card if the MB I/O lacks HDMI out or DP out.
Loss of video out may not necessarily point to a graphics card problem.
Same symptom using onboard video suggests some other component is having a bad day.
Troubleshooting would be reducing the MB to a minimum config:
- CPU
- Each stick of factory RAM, one at a time, in each memory slot
- Known good PSU
No luck would require swapping in replacement components or testing your remaining components in a test bench MB.
Or use the HP warranty.

When working with HP support realized the mouse & keyboard weren't lighting up.
Probably too far gone to get any effective testing out of it.
I think the desktop is dead - we've started a warranty return process.
What do I do when the warranty expires? I see there's only a month or so left on it. DOn't understand HP's support system anymore but it looks like I can't buy any after the expiration.

Greetings @cecinit
Using the warranty was a good choice.
A Care Pack is available, details are Here. Read the fine print for the legal stuff.
The 45L case is upgradable,
So, you could also install any retail, like-kind, MB or a more recent replacement MB if the HP MB would fail after the warranty expires. A newer retail MB would require compatible: RAM and CPU upgrades.
The HP case and current HP MB will accept many compatible after market components should any other HP component fail.

Thanks for the carepack link. The link to the post-warranty offer doesn't work. There's also a similarly-priced "HP Ultimate Gaming Coverage Plan" which does have a product description. It would be useful to be able to compare the two. The "Terms and Conditions" section for both works, but written by two different organizations. Any idea who to complain to to get that product description 404 fixed? $190/yr for a warranty is a lot but if my business is going to depend on this system working
On the repair: Interesting. The repair sheet on return from warranty said they replaced the processor(!).
You know what that means - better make an external backup going forward. It's too bad that internal SSD is buried inside the box. I think I will get another SSD same size I can plug into one of those smaller beds to mirror that system SSD.
The bitlocker keys are stored in your microsoft account. Apparently done automatically.
Since bitlocker solves a problem I don't have (after 30+ years of computers in this form factor and laptops) I'm going to just turn it off. I can see using it for some offline backup / storage that I put elsewhere.
The case was also damaged on return. The metal side panel wouldn't stay in - I had to bend the tabs back to get it to work. Since the desktop works now I'm reluctant to complain and force another cycle of shipment. But wow.

I looked into the carepack system with online support.
What they essentially do is sell you some additional support - but you also buy your own factory warranty again because these products start from the date of purchase.
IE, a 3-yr extended warranty" is really a 2-year warranty.
I have a name for a practice like that, one can think up one's own.

That’s definitely frustrating, especially on a newer system. Try reseating the GPU and checking your RAM — sometimes a loose connection causes display issues. A CMOS reset might help too, just in case the BIOS got stuck.
Also, for those working with media on their PCs, apps like wink apk can be useful for quick video-related tasks on mobile while your main system is down. Hope you get it fixed without needing to go through warranty!
