Hello , I was wondering about some information that I can't seem to fully confirm. I was considering upgrading from my i5-7400 to a i7-770k, but I see some sources online says the motherboard will support it, but than others say it won't. I've read some places say a BIOS update is all that is needed and then others say that its a direct replacement as the current BIOS Will support it? I also have seen that the H110chipset may or may not support it as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

According to this benchmarking website with reports of over 650 reports from other owners of your PC, the i7-7700K is supported.

UserBenchmark: HP 870-224 Compatible Components

The i7-7700K is a 91-watt processor, not a 65W processor like the one currently installed.

Intel Core i77700K Processor 8M Cache up to 4.50 GHz Product Specifications

The parts list indicates your PC's heat sink is rated for up to 95W:

HP PartSurfer

According to the release notes on your PC's BIOS update page, it looks like if you have BIOS version F11 or newer installed, you should be fine because F11 is the only update that added support for other processor microcodes.

Also, the i7-7700 and i7-7700K have the same B0 stepping code, and the processor upgrade info on your PC's specs page indicates that the i7-7700 is supported.

Very helpful, much appreciated . Regarding the heatsink, would you recommend to replace it with something nicer than the OEM one, or should it be ok for what it is? Last I checked it was a somewhat proprietary with the motherboard due to the screws, but then again I may be completely wrong. Thanks.

You're very welcome

I tend to agree with you regarding the heat sink.

The OEM one should work with the i7-7700K processor, and it may be difficult to find a better one, that could easily be installed.
