Hello!

I've owned my Omen 25L for just over a year now. It's come on board with 16g of ram and I wanted to upgrade to 32. I've been trying to search everywhere for the information - but I'm not able to tell which ram works specific for my PC.

Upon searching, it seems that the hyper x fury ram that was once used for this pc isn't produced anymore - rather, it's been replaced with the "Kingston fury beast" brand. I purchased the 2x 16gig of the Kingston fury beast (DDR4 3200mhz 16gig) to give it a go. Upon installing, it unfortunately runs at 2400mhz rather than the native 3200. I tried setting up an XMP profile through the bios, but any higher MHz seemed to make the pc unable to start up. I put in the old ram and am now scratching my head wondering what ram to buy lol.

I was curious if anyone has any info as to which type of ram that may be compatible with this Omen 25L series? Or perhaps is my easiest bet to track down the older hyper x fury ram and extend it that way?

Thank you very much for taking the time to read through this

-Will

@CoffeeML,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your Omen 25L desktop GT12-0xxx is very finnicky when it comes to RAM and especially achieving max RAM speed, but you already knew/suspected that anyway.

But how finnicky?

Well, when we look through the almost 1,900 Omen 25L desktop GT12-0xxx User benchmark performance scores here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-OMEN-25L-Desktop-GT12-0xxx/188923, we see that only the HP branded Kingston HyperX Fury can achieve 3200 MHz RAM speed.

Really.

Quite remarkable, considering that up to this moment in time, I have been able to find at least some RAM alternatives for other rigs.

So, to answer your question -responses by other HP Forum members have apparently not been forthcoming, is that yes, quote: "track down the older hyper x fury ram" to get what you want:

1.) Kingston HP32D4U8S8HC-8Xhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/394113329963?hash=item5bc2fc2b2b:g:wNsAAOSwke9ip3nj&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsG...

Hope this was helpful.
