Microsoft Windows 11

My omen 25l for the past few months has been very glitchy. I changed my gpu to the rtx 3060 and it didn't help, my cpu usage is high and my gpu usage is low, my video game fps stutters and drops hard. What should I do replace it or is there a fix, alsomy fps Is not going any higher even when I upgraded my gpu so I don't know what my cpu is doing. (I have the omen 25l with the dorado motherboard, it had an gtx 1660 super and 8gb of ram, and a i5 10400, I upgraded some parts, I upgraded to 32 gb, I changed my gpu to the 3060.

Hi @Monkeyman989999

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating performance issue after upgrading your HP Omen 25L with an RTX 3060, and you're experiencing high CPU usage, low GPU usage, and stuttering in your games. The FPS drop despite upgrading the GPU can be caused by a number of different factors, so let's try to isolate and address the issues step-by-step.

1. Check CPU and GPU Bottlenecking

CPU Bottleneck: Given that you're using an i5-10400, it may still be limiting the performance of the RTX 3060 in certain CPU-intensive tasks, especially in games that rely heavily on single-core performance or multitasking. The i5-10400 is a good mid-range CPU, but it may not be able to push the RTX 3060 to its full potential in more demanding games.

GPU Bottleneck: If your GPU usage is low, it could also indicate that the CPU is not feeding enough data to the GPU, leaving the GPU idle. In other words, the CPU is holding back the GPU, and the GPU is waiting for the CPU to process information. This often happens in CPU-heavy games or tasks.

2. Check Power Settings

  • Windows Power Plan: Sometimes, performance issues can be caused by power settings limiting the CPU or GPU performance.
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure you are set to High Performance.
    • Also, check for any power-saving settings in your motherboard’s BIOS (especially if it’s affecting CPU performance).
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: Make sure your GPU is being properly utilized for gaming:
    • Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • Under Manage 3D settings, ensure that the Power Management Mode is set to Maximum Performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
