Product: OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000i (392G3AV)

Has anyone swapped out the stock Nvidia RTX 3070 that came with this Omen 40L 12700 pc for an RTX 4000 series GPU?

Curious about how much of a Quality/Performance boost is possible and how much of a GPU upgrade this system supports without having to also upgrade the power supply and cooling systems. Is it worth it?  Would the existing system handle an RTX 4060 or 4070?

I have a 4K Samsung Odyssey monitor and run single player, RPGs like Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Witcher.  Thanks.

There are quite a few "HP System OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop GT21-0xxx" Users who have switched over to the RTX 4000 Series GPU as you can see here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-OMEN-by-HP-40L-Gaming-Desktop-GT21-0xxx/259608. These rigs perform quite well, and an RTX 40xx GPU upgrade is indeed something to consider.

 

Your OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000i (392G3AV) is either fitted with a 600-watt power supply with p/n: M83826-001 "PSU 600W ATX Gold", which, according to: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4070-ti.c3950, should be able* power an RTX 4070 Ti, or your desktop is fitted with a 800-watt power supply with p/n: M83827-001 "POWER SUPPLY UNIT 800W ATX Gold", which, according to: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4080.c3888, should be able power an RTX 4080.

 

* However, would strongly recommend the 800-watt power supply.

 

If you are interested in an RTX 4090, you'll need a 850+ watt power supply according to: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-4090.c3889.

Thanks for your quick reply and helpful links.

Yes, I do have the 800 watt power supply so I will consider upgrading to the RTX 4070 TI. I'm told the GPU swap is very simple on this PC. The 3070 is listed as having a 2 slot interface, while the 4070 TI has a 3 slot interface. Am I correct the OMEN 40L has 3 slots?

Any suggestions for best places to offer the RTX 3070 for resale?

Yes, you are good to go: your Omen 40L GT21 Gaming PC has seven (7) slots:

A wider graphics card may interfere with one or two PCIe motherboard slots, though, you should check.
