OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000a (4E978AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My Product number: is 33T57AAR#ABA

I am looking to upgrade to a Gen4 SSD. However, I am not sure if it supports Gen4. The SSD that came installed on the PC is a Gen3 SSD. as Per the Hp Site specificationts not clear if only one of the two SSD slots is a gen3 slot or both are.

Does anyone know if the HanaAOC motherboard on the 45L supports a Gen4 SSD?

@Pongy92,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your OMEN By HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000a (4E978AV) with p/n: 33T57AAR#ABA, according to: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=33T57AAR&searchby=product, is fitted with the M81916-601 motherboard ("Motherboard, HanaAOC,SSID: 8949, AM4 105W, B550, MS, WIN").

Searching on: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-45l-gaming-desktop-pc-gt22-0000a/2100851548/document..., under "Expansion slots, says: "(2) M.2 socket 3, key M, type 2280 (one for SSD card PCIe Gen 3.0 x4)" -which in my opinion is a misprint: it should say: "(2) M.2 socket 3, key M, type 2280 (one for SSD card PCIe Gen 4.0 x4)".

This is further confirmed when we look at this OMEN By HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0xxx User performance benchmark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/54530573, we see that this rig has two Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSDs installed, but only the first one runs at Gen4 speeds: 432%, whereas the second Gen4 drive runs at 301%, consistent with the performance one would expect from a Gen3 M.2 slot.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
