Omen 45L GT22-1455xt

We ordered the Omen 45L GT22-1455xt, but it only ships with 16GB RAM.  Since it was only a few dollars more, we figured we'd completely replace the included ram with a kit of (2) Kingston Technology Fury Beast RGB 16GB 5200MT/s DDR5 CL40 (which *should* be the same RAM, so far as I can tell), to bring RAM total to 32GB and leave two slots open.

When I asked in HP chat about whether we could also upgrade to 6000MT/s while we're at it, we were told to stick with the 5200MT/s, but then I was told something that causes concern.  After getting more info, I was told that she, "... can see that the memory can support DDR5 Kingston FURY XMP RGB 32 GB but the motherboard maximum speed for DDR5 is only 2235 MHz (Base) and 2520 MHz (Boost)."

Can someone please explain what this means in terms of RAM support?  Is the PC NOT getting the full benefit of the RAM speed?  I tried Googling, but couldn't find anything that reassured me.

Thanks.

RAM we're looking at, that we assume is the same RAM type (HP doesn't show photos of the interior of the Omen, or the RAM itself!):

I just bought this GT22-1455xt today from HP, found your post, and called to cancel the order. It was too late.

She had no answers and referred me to a tech phone number, too late to call today.

I will call them tomorrow and find out if the RAM can be upgraded at the same mt/s.

It may be the motherboard will lower the mt/s if you add memory, or it is locked in the BIOS. If that's the story I'll return the computer.

Maybe this is why it's a good deal.

I'm wondering if any of you have got this computer and added RAM, and what happened.

Ok, I spoke to tech support and the guy said memory speed is NOT decreased by the motherboard, it runs at 5200 mb/s,  and adding memory will NOT decrease the speed.

I hope he's telling the truth; a lie over the phone has no record.

I'll post again when I get the computer in a few days.

Computer is hooked up, the memory runs at 4400mbps, not 5200 as advertised.

It is unknown if this will stay the same if I upgrade the memory. I'll try to get the memory that is compatible with installed; I'll contact HP and ask them.

I'm keeping the computer as I need it and can't take the delay in returning it and getting another.

I'll post again after I upgrade memory.

I have this same machine. The Kingston Ram is labeled with a special HP part number and they do say 5200 on them. But, as you mentioned they do run at 4400 . I knew that going in but not really sure why they do that. My bigger issue is what 8GM or 16GB sticks do I put into the 2 empty slots  to upgrade my 16GB to 32GB. I thought about just buying the readily available Kingston Beast Fury 8GB 5200 sticks....but  memory in HP can be finicky, so I tried to buy it directly from HP instead.....Part# N277718-001 or #HP52u40S6HM-8FRA but their part store says "not available"

I do have a tech email into HP, hopefully I hear from them today. I asked them which aftermarket Kinston FURY ram are compatible with system.

I am starting to think these are custom Fury sticks provide to HP from Kingston.

Hello, I have an Omen 25L GT15-1104, which came with a single HP part numbered 5200 Kingston RGB Fury Beast memory stick (HP52U40S6HM-8FRA).  Using the omen gaming hub, I could overclock the speed from 4400 to 5200 (which they called turbo mode).  But once I added non-hp 5200 Kingston RGB Fury Beast memory stick to the remaining slots (I started with single additional module and then added two more from a two piece kit) the omen gaming hub turbo option would only go up to 4700 mt/s according to it UI with either setup.

I found this document HP OMEN PCs – Configure XMP-compatible memory that is not verified by HP | HP® Customer Support which shows that if you use non-hp certified memory omen gaming up won't overclock the memory any longer and you need to boot to the bios to overclock.  The support article says to select the XMP profile for the speed you want (which seems to be coming from one or all the ram sticks) whereas this other relevant hp support created video How to upgrade and configure DDR5 RGB memory on the OMEN by HP 40L Gaming GT21-1000a | HP Support - ... says just select speed under the custom option.  I selected the former option of specifying the 5200 xmp profile since that seems to be what xmp is for.  Interestingly there was another xmp profile listed for a 4700 speed in the bios which matches what gaming hub said it could still boost too, so I am left wondering where that speed profile is coming from since kingston docs https://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KF552C40BB-8.pdf  for the non-hp memory I bought show a 4800 mt/s profile option not this 4700.  My guess is the hp-stick has that profile and the bios is showing that since it's in the orginally populated slot (DIMM1).  I was thinking about removing it and testing the theory but because when I select everything is working at 5200 and is stable, I figure what does it matter.

But as you can see there is couple of things I wanted to share with the community: 1) You can, at least on my model. overclock the stock memory and non-hp branded memory, but you have to use the bios when you have the latter.  2) It seems you don't exactly need a matched kit of four to get the 5200 speed.  3) The omen gaming hub does still show a overclock option to configure the memory but in my current setup only shows a 4700 option (which is selected when I have the bios set to the 5200 XMP profile).

I do wish Omen PC wouldn't require or ship with this hp certified memory for something you can get direct from Kingston, especially since you can't buy it from HP and it seems only sold on ebay.  Also, hp support video basically tells you to throw it away when you upgrade and don't use the omen software to manage if you don't use the memory it comes with, which all seems like a big waste for no reason.  And these memory manufacturers and blogs saying you have to have every stick from a matched set, really make this whole process a bit of bear but it seems if you try and it works you are OK but no one will tell you its OK.

Good luck all.
