OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC IDS Base Models (ArticunoI)
Microsoft Windows 11

My Omen 45L GT22-XXXX suffers from the random shutdowns evidently caused by the underpowered 800W ATX PSU overheating, that HP equipped it with when the RTX 3090 video card is part of the configuration. Apparently, the solution is a heftier PSU; my question is what PSU is swappable into the rig. Any recommendations?

hi @AWH30609

Welcome to the HP Forum.

It would be good if you could get any equivalent ATX PSU to test your theory.

Your PC uses a standard ATX PSU at 150 mm width, 86 mm height, and typically 140 mm depth. Or 5.9 inches, 3.9 inches, 5.5 inches respectively. Give or take a few mms here and there.

Disconnect the HP PSU: EPS (CPU) connection, the 24 pin connection, and the GPU connection. Connect the new PSU to these connections.

No need to install the second PSU in the case.

Run the PC using the new PSU to test for a shutdown.

You could have a Faulty HP PSU if the PC works using the new PSU. Or some other component is faulty if the PC continues to shut down.

Hi @AWH30609

Tech Powerup suggests a 750 watt or higher PSU when using a reference Nvidia 3090.

Make sure the 3090 has two dedicated 150 watt PCIe connections from the PSU (no splitter) to the 12 pin adapter.

The Nvidia 3090 graphics card has a TDP of 350 watts. Using only one PCIe PSU cable would mean the card is only getting 225 watts (75 from the PCIe x16 slot plus 150 from the PSU cable).
