Hi,
i would like to know if i can upgrade from 2x16gb ddr5 to 4x16gb ddr5 (of course same brand,specs...). I saw online that some issues are with this configuration and i would like to know if the issues have been addressed maybe by a bios update or something.
Thanks

Hi @Allo1237217
You should have no problem upgrading to support a maximum of 128 GB. just verify that the frequency is correct y the CPU is for serie K

Greetings @Allo1237217
Welcome to the HP Forum.
Your PC's (Z790) Intel MB should support XMP. But HP, sometimes, deprecates this BIOS function on gaming MBs.
Populating all four memory sockets can be tricky. It depends on the efficacy of the integrated CPU memory controller.
It is best to do two 32 GB memory modules vs four 16 GB memory modules. You have a better chance of getting XMP performance using two memory modules vs four memory modules.
@NonSequitur777 can suggest memory module upgrades.

Greetings @Allo1237217
Try all memory slots using four 16 GB memory modules.
I try to avoid this when possible.
I have seen stability problems and no XMP options on some CPUs when doing all memory slots. The integrated memory controller is a silicon lottery; you never know what you will get.

Looking at actual-factual HP System OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop GT22-1xxx Users here, there are a few 2x32GB non-HP RAM kit options that really stand out, chief amongst them is the Kingston FURY Beast 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Memory (Desktop Memory) Model KF560C36BBEK2-64.
Least expensive place I could locate this RAM kit is via Newegg ($199.99) as seen here: https://www.newegg.com/kingston-64gb-ddr5-6000/p/N82E16820242770?item=N82E16820242770&source=region&....
I agree with you, @Bill_To: if you are really interested in getting the best RAM performance, retire the 2x16GB and get the 2x32GB RAM kit.
Kind Regards,
NonSequitur777

Hi @Allo1237217
in my humble opinion I think you will have no problem using 2x16 GB as long as the memory is PC5-41600 MB/s. as the Fury Beast,
