OMEN by HP Accelerator Shell - GA1-1000

Hello, I 'm using omen egpu ga1-1000 successfully with a mac mini 2018. The graphical card is AMD Rx570. The issue is related to the difficulty to configure the egpu interaction when starting the mac. The egpu is not directly recognized and I have to try different combinaison of plugging/unplugging thunderbolt, restarting the computer ( not yet found the right starting path) etc ... to reach them working smoothly together so I keep the machines running days when I have manage a video building project. Do you know a stable proved solution to improve the usability ?

Hi @Eleje-Ne,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some common issues with eGPU setups on macOS, particularly with the Mac Mini 2018. Here are some steps you can take to improve the stability and usability of your eGPU setup.

  • Ensure macOS is up to date: Sometimes, Apple releases updates that include fixes for eGPU compatibility and stability issues. Make sure your macOS version is the latest available.
  • Use a supported Thunderbolt 3 cable: Not all Thunderbolt 3 cables are created equal. Ensure you're using a high-quality, certified Thunderbolt 3 cable to connect your eGPU enclosure to your Mac Mini.
  • Hot-plug the eGPU after macOS boots: Sometimes, macOS may not recognize the eGPU if it's connected before booting. Try connecting the eGPU after your Mac Mini has finished booting up to see if it's detected more reliably.
  • Reset NVRAM and SMC: Resetting the Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory (NVRAM) and System Management Controller (SMC) can sometimes resolve various hardware-related issues on Mac computers. To reset the NVRAM, restart your Mac and immediately hold down Command + Option + P + R until you hear the startup chime twice. To reset the SMC, shut down your Mac, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Release the button and then turn on your Mac again.
  • Check for firmware updates for your eGPU enclosure: Sometimes, eGPU manufacturers release firmware updates that address compatibility and stability issues. Check the manufacturer's website or utility software for any available updates for your eGPU enclosure.
  • Use third-party utilities: There are third-party utilities available that can help manage eGPU setups on macOS, such as "set-eGPU" or "gfxCardStatus." These utilities can sometimes provide more control and stability over eGPU usage.

By following these steps, you should be able to improve the stability and usability of your eGPU setup with your Mac Mini 2018.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks very much for your efficient support. Alter upgrading to sonoma, version of OS/x , installing my tac-2 zoom audio interface through an “Apple certified “ Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 interface and changing my Thunderbolt 3 cable by an “Apple certified “ Thunderbolt 4 interface (1m) and some trying and error with monitors configurations  I ‘m able to boot my Mac mini 2018 without being rejected by the T2 security processor and with the egpu omen recognised and the Rx 570 correctly interfaced. Still have to check stability in time …

I have a documentation of Omen egpu on https://support.hp.com/id-en/document/ish_2534192-1409866-16.

It's concerning essentially about Windows machine and more specifically HP devices ( laptops or desktops)

Do you have documentation for Apple Mac devices like iMac, mac mini, macbook pro supported by Omen egpu.

I didn't find any similar documentation about which firmware of the omen  egpu is best suited to my mac mini 2018 ( with sonoma OS) and my iMac 27k Retina ( end-2015 with Catalina OS).

Best regards !
