I purchased a Compaq Presario s3310 om (2600 + amd athlon with XP Home Edition. S# 31316953)

When I boot up the computer the computer Beeps continiously and nothing happens after that. I have done some research and want to confirm that this is a RAM Issue. The original Ram was 512 mb ddr sdram memory. I did a search on Diagnostic Compaq Bios Beep codes and a continiously beeping indicates Memory error - Reseat or replace and re test. Am I on the right track?

Nothing is lost by air dusting the RAM slots.  Not sure you interpretation of beep codes are correct.

Beep codes: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107

What is more bothersome is the purchase of a vintage 2003-04 machine that did not work. Also, reseat any other cards.

You might also try a non-destructive System Recovery  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00007689

I found the beep code sequence in biocentral.com website for compaq computers because the listing in the HP website was not inclusive. This is not my computer - It's my bosses and I've been asked to assist in the diagnosis. I reseat the devices and clean the interior case to see if this might alleviate the problem. I can also remove one of the ram chips one at a time to see if one or both are bad. I also was informed that the PC cane with XP Home Edition but was upgraded to XP Pro. I wouldn't think that this would affect what's going on now.

Hello. I have the same beeping after replacing the display inverter in my son's CQ60. His machine cane with Windows Vista installed though I do not believe the OS version is relevant in this case as no software changes have been made. What I did notice was a raised area in the keyboard where I accidentally put the wrong screw in the upper area. It was putting pressure on the keys causing a keyboard error. I removed the too long screw, used a shorter one and problem solved. No more angry computer beeping at me. I hope this helps.
