Today I tried to a complete cleanup of my computer by opening up the case and wiping off any dust as well as reseating my hard drive and my RAM stick. After removing my RAM stick (I only have one and it's 4GB) I tried to reseat it, but the pins weren't working. After trying dozens of times, I just decided to use the other slot that was below the first RAM slot. When I pressed the power button on my PC, it made beeping noises so I decided to put the RAM stick back to the first slot. Now, the problem is that since one of the pin was loose, I just pushed in the RAM stick in completely without using the pins so my RAM stick was facing upwards a bit. I then latched on my motherboard cover hoping that my PC would work. When I turned my PC on, sure enough it worked. But my question is, even though I did not use the RAM slot pin to push in the stick, will this still affect my PC in the future ? Everything seems to be working right now as i am typing this from my computer, but I don't if not using the slot pins will push the RAM stick out.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I am not sure what "After removing my RAM stick (I only have one and it's 4GB) I tried to reseat it, but the pins weren't working."

Are you talking about the memory module retention clips used to lock the RAM in the memory slot?

These clips are designed to secure the memory module in the socket.

The memory module may disengage from the socket at some point down the road.

Regards
