HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-0005na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Bought PC three years ago. Good spec and high price to be relatively future proof but now wont start up. Not heavily used and no previous issues apart from the odd freeze up. Upon physical  inspection I spotted this component on motherboard which looks sort of fried. Power cord okay. PSU seems okay from the voltage I've got on terminals and did a jumper test and fan came on.

Can anyone advise what the component is on the mother board, why it would over heat / fail in this way and if it is likely to be the route cause of my non-starting issue. Thanks Guys.

@MX5MK1,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-0005na (9EY83EA) is fitted with a Rother motherboard (SSID: 8653), and the fried chip on your motherboard is the Intel FH82H370 SR405 chipset microprocessor, which plays a crucial role in your PC's electronic architecture as it manages communication between your CPU, memory, peripherals, and other system components:

Incidentally, this would be the first time I personally have seen one of these chips fried. Why did it fry?  Difficult to say, because these chips don't usually get too hot either.  They are almost never fitted with a heatsink, for example. Perhaps there was a manufacturing defect that caused it to fail over time.

Only way to fix this is to purchase a replacement motherboard, which you can get for around $109 via eBay (at least in the US): HP Envy Gaming TG01 Intel LGA1151 Socket Desktop Motherboard L56019-601 | eBay.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Hi NonSequitur777,

Thank you so much for your reply. I've spoken to two 'experts' in local computer shops none of which could identify the failed component from my photo, so top marks to you!

I'm in the UK and from my initial look replacement boards seem to be a fair bit pricier than in the US, but I'll continue looking for  a good deal and perhaps try swapping it out.

Best Regards, Ray

@MX5MK1,

You are welcome!

Perchance my 'degree' of nerdiness was a few notches higher than your experts?

@MX5MK1,

Just as an FYI and a BTW: you can purchase a perfectly good Rother motherboard (p/n: L56019-601) via AliExpress from the United Kingdom for a lot less: L56019-601 - Buy L56019-601 with free shipping on AliExpress, as long as you are OK with 2+ weeks shipping.  I have had an excellent customer experience with AliExpress spanning over many years.
