Hello Community:
I have an HP Compaq 6000 Pro SFF PC, OS of Windows 10 Home with a 200 GB HDD Drive.
I am starting to have noise coming from the hard drive area on start up, could this in itself indicate failure of the drive ?.
Is it possible that this owner could swap out the HDD drive to a 300 GB SST drive ?. If this is possible what procedure could I follow to get the files and the Windows 10 home OS on the new drive solid state drive.
Any help and suggestion will be helpful.
Thanks

Hi:
Yes, I would recommend that you install a SSD even if the hard drive isn't bad.
You would have an option to install a 250 GB SSD or a 500 GB SSD.
I do not believe that you will find a 300 GB SSD.
You will need a 3.5" to 2.5" drive adapter to fit where the 3.5" drive is currently mounted.
You can reinstall W10 for free by making a bootable USN flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
After you boot from the media and get past the 'Install Now' screen you will be asked what version of W10 you want to install. Select W10 Home.
Then you will be asked to enter a product key. Select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and automatically activate after you are connected to the internet.
The only drivers you should need after W10 installs are these two:
Intel Active Client Manager HECI Device Driver
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45411.exe
Intel AMT LMS_SOL for AMT 5.xx
