Hi @Elliot_Eathan,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your computer finds a hardware error when you turn it on, it might not start. If the computer beeps or a light blinks, you can use that error code to attempt to resolve the issue.

Perform a power reset (or hard reset) of your desktop computer to clear information from the computer memory without erasing personal data.

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

NOTE: Do not disconnect your mouse, keyboard, or monitor.

  • With the AC adapter unplugged, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
  • After you drain the capacitors, reconnect the AC adapter. Leave peripheral devices disconnected.
  • Turn on the computer.

Specific patterns of long and short light-emitting diode (LED) blinks, or audible short beeps can help identify a variety of issues.

NOTE: Diagnostic lights and audible beep codes are not available on all models.

Review the following to reference the light blink or computer beep sequence.

  • The red light blinks represent a major error category (long blinks).
  • The white light blinks represent a minor error category (short blinks).
  • A one (1) second pause occurs after the last major blink.
  • A two (2) second pause occurs after the last minor blink.
  • Blink error code sequences continue until you unplug the computer or press the power button.
  • Beep error code sequences occur for the first five (5) iterations of the pattern and then stop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The beeps just happen every once in a while and if i replace it,it does start but is just moves to a black screen with a blinking underscore on it after the HP logo appears on startup.

Forgive me, but be more specific..
with the new card, do you have a series of beeps as shown in the link or not, if so, how often?
With the old card you have the same problem , the computer does not start anymore ?

If your computer allows it, can you connect the monitor to the motherboard, without a graphics card, do you have the same problem?
