I went away for 3 days and shut my PC down when I left. I came back and now it won't turn on again. I checked the power cable and it works. I unplugged everything, pressed the power button for 30sec and plugged in the power cable again. Pressed the power button and nothing happens.

Hi @Scott_G68,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP ENVY Desktop PC won’t turn on after being shut down for a few days, here are some troubleshooting steps to help diagnose and fix the issue.
Check Power Supply & Connections
Confirm Power Source
- Try plugging the desktop into a different power outlet.
- If using a power strip, plug it directly into a wall outlet to rule out a faulty strip.
Test Power Cable
- If you have another compatible power cable (like from a monitor or another PC), try swapping it.
Check the Power Supply Unit (PSU) Light
- Some HP desktops have an LED on the back near the power cable connection.
- If there’s a light and it’s OFF, the PSU might be faulty.
- If it’s ON but the PC still won’t power up, proceed with further steps.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Unplug the power cable from the desktop.
- Hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain residual power.
- Plug the power cable back in and try turning it on.
Check for Internal Power Indicators
If the PSU has a built-in test button, press it and see if the fan inside the PSU spins.
- If the fan doesn’t spin, the PSU may be faulty.
- If the fan does spin but the PC won’t start, the issue may be with the motherboard.
Open the case (if comfortable) and check for LED lights on the motherboard.
- No lights? The PSU may have failed.
- If lights are on but no response from the power button, the power button or motherboard may be the issue.
Reseat Components
- Remove and reinsert the RAM sticks firmly.
- Reseat the graphics card (if applicable).
- Check that the CPU power cable is securely connected.
Breadboarding (Isolate the Issue)
- If you're comfortable, try disconnecting all peripherals and unnecessary components (GPU, extra RAM, SSD/HDD) and turn the PC on using only the motherboard, CPU, and power supply.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
