HP 295 G6 Microtower (1M0Z1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

I hope you can help me.

I just got an HP 295 G6 but I cannot run my RX570 4GB as there are no additional 8-pin PSU cables and the PSU is only 180w when I need a preferably 500w supply.

I don't suppose anyone is able to help me find a suitable replacement as I have done lots of searching and haven't found any suitable one as of yet.

Current PSU: L70042-002

Motherboard ID : 871E

@Turnip123,

Let me first express my sympathy for your frustration trying to find a way to power a better graphics card on an HP platform when it appears all you have are proprietary underpowered power supplies.  I have spent countless hours online to research power solutions for the same reason as yours -in other words: I feel your pain.

There are reliable and proven power alternatives by the way, maybe you want to consider one of them. More about that in a second, though.

It appears that possibly [emphasis added!] that there is a 400 watt power supply that may be compatible with your HP 295 G6: HP p/n: 942332-001.  However, as you pointed out, you still wouldn't have 6-/8-pin PCIe power connections to power an industry standard graphics card, and 400 watt is still very iffy to power an RX 570 4GB.

Therefore, I experimented with daisy-chaining a secondary (external) power supply to power GPU's -all the way to an **s-kicking RTX 3080 OC 12GB, using an ATX 24-pin to 4-pin/SATA synchronizing connector, such as this one: Amazon.com: 2 Pack Add2PSU Synchronous Power Board Dual PSU Multiple Power Supply Adapter, ATX 24Pin....

It would take a bit more time than I have right now to chat about it, but please see the description/tutorial and illustrations provided in my HP Elite 800 G3 SFF upgrade project thread at page 8 for a first look: Solved: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF - Page 5 - HP Support Community - 8251218.

I am quite certain this would be of interest to you.

Kind Regards,

Hi @NonSequitur777,

Thank you for your reply.

I am leaning towards the first option, I might get a GTX 1650 to replace my RX570 to fix the issue of not having enough power as the GTX 1650 relies on PCIE to power it but would still need 400w to power would this be okay?

My biggest worry is whether "will the psu fit" as the internals of the pc is quite compact.

I don't suppose you have dimensions for your PSU?

@Turnip123,

That would be an excellent choice in my opinion: the low profile and low power (but surprisingly nimble!) MSI GTX 1650 4GB graphics card would work just fine with a 400 watt power supply: Amazon.com: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GT LP 4GB GDDR5 HDMI/DL-DVI-D PCI-Express Video Card : Elec....

The topic of alternative HP power supply dimensions/options remains murky: we -as in us HP Forum members, find it difficult at times to precisely provide all the relevant information because HP doesn't provide it, we have to figure it out ourselves. My suggestion is to purchase the aforementioned 400 watt PSU from a Seller who accepts returns if it is the case that the unit doesn't fit, such as this purchase option: HP PSU 400w Power Supply Platinum Rated Lincs Sunflower Pavilion 942332-001 US | eBay.

Kind Regards,
