My problem is trying to add a second M.2 drive to my HP Z6 G4 tower workstation. Can someone please clarify what parts are required? (heatsink? anything else?)
I've seen several discussions on this forum but none specifically for the Z6 series.

Welcome to the HP Forum.
The Quick Specs for your PC at this Site show two M.2 slots.
Generally you need a M.2 MB standoff and a screw to secure the M.2 drive to the MB standoff. Did HP provide this?
A heatsink is optional. I use Gen 3.0 x 4 M.2 drives without heatsinks and have zero thermal problems.

Thanks for the reply Bill_To
And thanks for explaining the heatsink is optional. Assumed this was necessary because the computer came with an M.2 drive plus heatsink. Now I want to add a second M.2 drive. Currently all I have is the drive, nothing more.
Cheers

My pleasure.
Did HP provide a standoff and screw for a second M.2 install? Maybe they are preinstalled on the MB from the factory.
You might have a problem finding those parts if you don't have them.

Hi @Bill_To
Think we have a winner 😁 Based on your information, I had a closer look at my MB. Is this what you were expecting to see? And since you had already explained that the heatsink is optional, I should be right to go.
Your help is much appreciated.

My pleasure.
It looks like you are good to go with respect to the MB standoff. I also looks like you will need a screw.
You can get M.2: screws and standoffs at Amazon.
The only question is if HP uses a fine or coarse threaded MB standoff.

Hi @Bill_To
Time to mark this thread as resolved as you have very patiently answered all my questions.

ETA: as mentioned elsewhere, a screw from a Mac works perfectly well.
