Pavilion 690-0034 Gaming Desktop Computer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I see many similar questions, but with answers that vary significantly between models, so I have to pose my own question.  However, it's simple.

I have the Pavilion 690-0034 "gaming" computer (Best Buy purchase) with the 128 SSD boot drive (c:/) and a 1TB SATA 7200 rpm HDD.  No other description of the HDD is given in the machine's specs that I have found.

I'd like to replace the 1TB HDD with a 1TB (or larger) SSD.  I see various 1TB SATAIII 2.5" SSDs from various manufacturers (i.e., Samsung, Cricial, etc.).  Are the described SSDs (2.5" SATAIII SSD) able to replace the stock SATA HDD & is the switch compatable with my computer model/bios?  If such SSDs are not compatible, what type of SSD would work to replace the HDD?

Additionally, is any additional mounting hardware needed or is the existing mounting hardware used with the HDD sufficient to acommodate the 2.5" SSD?

Thanks!

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

You should be able to install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in your PC. HP should be using standard SATA data and power connectors.

The mounting hardware is where it gets a little fuzzy.

Please check out the service procedure to replace a 3.5 inch SATA HDD in your product at the following (Link).

Select Desktops, HP Pavilion, Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0xx.

Select FRU Remove/Replace

Finally select Hard Drive - 3.5 inch. You need Flash to watch the video.

The image is small. It is hard to see if a 2.5 inch SSD will mount without using a HDD to SSD adapter. It is also hard to tell how the 2.5 inch adapter would install in the drive cage.

I have never worked with this new HP chassis.

You would have to open the PC and take a look to see what is happening.

Regards
